About Doof!
Hello and welcome to Doof! Media. We make podcasts and online content about movies, TV, books and the stories we love.
Doof is the first letters of our founders Scott Daly and Matt Freeman’s last names with two Os in between them. It’s what Gwenyth Paltrow did with her own company “goop” because all the best internet companies have two Os in them. So we put two Os between Daly and Freeman, thought doof sounded hilarious and kept it. We later found out “doof” is German for “stupid” and that in Australia a doof is a large outdoor EDM concert. Both of these things made us love the name even more.
Our slogan here at Doof! Media is “We Love This” because, well, we do. We believe in the power of storytelling and we love examining those stories, trying to figure out how and why they work, and most importantly, trying to get to the bottom of why we love them so damn much.
Check out our Podcasts page for a list of all of our current shows and make sure you check out this month’s book club where we dive deep into a new book each and every month!
Scott Daly (owner, host)
Scott lives in Dallas, Texas where he spends way too much of his time talking about, thinking about, and watching movies. He likes just about any kind of movie but has a special place in his heart for horror and films in which Rocky Balboa punches things. Scott’s superpower is being really good at pretending like he knows what he’s talking about.
Matt Freeman (owner, host)
Elyse (host, Mmm… Whatcha Say)
Elyse, also known as Scott’s wife and the creative genius behind all things Doof, enjoys books, movies, music, dancing, traveling, and most importantly reality TV! She cleverly manipulated Scott into giving her a show so that the rest of the world would know how awesome she is, and now you must listen to Vow to View or else your life will be less than great. Also cookies, she likes cookies.
Michael (host, Doof! Plays, The Doofcast)
Michael enjoys time travel movies and movies that take place entirely within one room or on a train. A man of principles, he is currently boycotting superhero movies, Star Wars films, sequels, prequels, soft reboots, hard reboots, bio-pics, movies that aren’t bio-pics but seem like they should be, and David Villeneuve.
Reuben (administrator, host Pale Reflections)
Reuben spends his time either recording podcasts, making games or crocheting stuffed toys that really look much better in his head. He watches a lot of
Elliot (administrator, host Pale Reflections)
Elliot watches too much TV, plays too many video games, and listens to too many podcasts and audiobooks. He correctly believes that the entertainment industry peaked during the golden age of TV sci-fi from the mid-90’s to the late 00’s, but admits that some of the new stuff is good too.
Alexandra (host, Do The Write Thing, The View from Halfway Down)
Alexandra is an undergrad student at the University of North Texas who, against all advice, chose both of the majors that require the most reading. Don’t ask them about the latest story idea, historical fact, or media that’s been consuming their thoughts unless you’re ready for a firehose of nonessential-yet-sometimes-
Jarvis (host, Do The Write Thing)
Jarvis is an amalgamation of a 1999 Nu Metal album, that stale coffee that gets the job done, and a splash of 2006 Toonami. He’s a southern boy, growing up in the 13th best suburb in Texas, who if not recording, is writing, reading, or watching an array of film ranging from really good to really bad. He has love for all genres of film and literature but has a DEEP love for Comedy, Sci-Fi, and Noir, and will talk someones ear off about all three without any warning.
Jenny (host, Pale In Comparison)
Born and raised on Maui, Jenny was drawn into Texas by the massive gravitational pull. She enjoys baking, attempting to play the ukulele, playing random video games, and hanging out with her awesome husband and son. She absolutely loves puns and dumb jokes.
Malia (host, Pale In Comparison)
Malia lives in Austin, TX where she studies law and does her best to pamper her cat, Egwene. She tends to take on art projects that she doesn’t quite complete (see the knitted afghan squares and box of half-finished needlepoint pieces under her bed). She wants to learn to paint and draw, and will likely produce many half-finished works in pursuit of these skills.
Sebastian (host, The View from Halfway Down)
When Seb isn’t basking in the animation of their favorite cartoons, they’re probably busy cooking up a storm in the kitchen or listening to just about any horror podcast they can find. Be warned, upon bringing up any paranormal topics, Seb won’t be able to resist talking for hours upon hours about their spooky stories from living in a remote cabin in the cryptid filled woods of colorado and monster hunting in the darkened plains of new mexico. Seb is a canadian menace to society who also loves beer, and Seth Rogan movies. That’s all you need to know. Infact, we’ve already said too much.
