We are so excited to announce that today officially begins the Do the King Thing short fiction contest! This contest, funded by our Doof! patrons, encourages Kingslingers listeners to try their hand at writing a King-esque short story, using the framework of the Do the Write Thing writing challenge.
The Rules:
1) The submission must be a Stephen King-esque short story. We’re leaving it up to you to determine what “Stephen King-esque” means, but points will be awarded for being King-accurate.
2) Your submission must be 2000 words or less in length.
3) The contest begins today and submissions will be accepted until July 15, 2021, 11:59:59 PM PST.
4) Please submit your stories to contests@doofmedia.com and include “Do the King Thing Contest” in your subject header.
5) Only one story per writer!
The Contest:
Once all submissions are received and the deadline passes, we will provide a poll to our Doof! Patrons, who will get an opportunity to vote on their favorite story. The story with the most votes wins! The voting will be patron-only, so if you’d like to participate in selecting the winner, consider donating to support Doof! Media Podcasts!
The Prize:
The top three stories of the contest will be read on a special episode of Kingslingers. The first-place winner will receive their choice of a cash prize of $125, or a Folio Society copy of a Stephen King novel*. The second-place finisher will take home $75, and the third-place winner will receive a $25 prize as well!
*Where shipping costs permit.
We cannot wait to see what you guys come up with! And remember, if you’re looking for a little inspiration, why not check out the weekly word prompts in the Do The Write Thing Podcast!
