In the View from Halfway Down, Sebastian and Alexandra analyze the Netflix-produced, animated dark comedy, Bojack Horseman, episode by episode.
In a trend going on from the first two episodes, this episode we witness some more horse-man related freaky sex stuff, this time with a real hefty dose of daddy issues. Also, the harsh, harsh consequences of never telling someone no. And a really awful play on words about muffins.
This week’s discussion question is – At the end of the episode, feeling guilty over his role in Sarah Lynn’s outcome, Bojack retreats into determinism, blaming all problems on Society and The Cruel and Random Universe rather than taking responsibility. Diane starts to interject but Todd stops her and says, “let him have this.” Was this the right thing to do? How do we determine when someone needs to hear a hard truth, and when they need to be given kindness and shelter?
