We did it!
For the last couple of months we’ve been slowly edging closer to our next Patreon goal. Now, thanks to over 200 of you fine people, we’ve done it! It’s time to launch Doof! Plays!
But what the heck is that?
Well, we don’t really know. At least not yet.
The shortest possible answer is: we’re gonna start occasionally doing some video game streaming content. We’ve started a twitch channel (twitch.tv/doofmedia) and we’re gonna play some games there! It’s gonna be fun.
But I think…or hope, at least, that it’s gonna be so much more than that.
See, we’ve spent hundreds of hours here talking about movies, tv, and books. But games are this whole other form of storytelling. And they’re a truly unique one, too. Games can tell stories in ways that no other medium can. They can connect you with characters in a way that a book or a movie just can’t. It’s a space that we really really want to explore. And we figured, why not explore that space with other people? Why not play games and discuss the story while we’re playing them? So that’s our goal. Well, it’s one of them.
We’ve got a lot of things we want to do in this space:
- Matt and I want to play some co-op games and hopefully entertain you guys.
- Michael and Matt are basically in the middle of the biggest Starcraft 2 shit-talking war you’ve ever seen. But you haven’t seen it! Maybe now you can.
- I want to make Elyse attempt to play some games in my never ending quest to make her a ‘gamer’
- We want to invite some of the community to play games with us, too. This is something we’ve tried to organize on the Patreon Discord in the past but never really materialized. Now we’re gonna devote some time to it.
- And of course, we want to play some board games too. Why not!?
- And yeah, I wanna talk about story. Because I love story and I love the ways in which games can tell a great one.
We have no idea how this thing is gonna work. We have no idea if it’s gonna work. But like everything else we’ve done here at Doof! Media, we’re gonna jump into the deep end and find out of we can swim.
Over the next couple of weeks we’re gonna be setting things up in the background and occasionally popping onto twitch (twitch.tv/doofplays) as we mess with settings and try to learn how this whole thing works. Starting in 2019, my goal is to set up some regular time where at least one of us is able to pop onto a stream for a few hours. We’re gonna be trying out all these different ideas and we ask that you be patient with us as we figure this new thing out, but we’re really excited and hope you guys are too.
Welcome to Doof! Plays.
Come play!
